Benvenuti a Martina Franca!
Questa multi vi accompagnerà in una passeggiata nel centro storico, alla scoperta di alcuni degli angoli più caratteristici della città.
Per iniziare, dirigetevi verso l’arco che avete davanti e buona passeggiata!
Step 1
Oggi detta arco di Santo Antonio, è una delle quattro porte che permettevano l’ingresso alla città.
Fu costruita insieme alle cinte murarie nel XIV secolo e poi ristrutturata diverse volte nel corso dei secoli fino ad arrivare alla svolta barocca che ha eliminato ogni elemento di difesa militare. Sulla sommità una statua dedicata a San Martino, santo patrono della città.
Sotto l’arco vi è una piccola targa in plastica, cercate l’anno (ABCD) più piccolo scritto in blu.
Recatevi a N 40° 42.(2051-ABCD)' E 17° 20.(1986-ABCD)'
Step 2
Attraversato l’arco sarete ufficialmente nel centro storico. Dopo aver superato piazza Roma col palazzo ducale (attuale sede del comune), camminerete nel cosiddetto “Ringo”, termine che deriva da “arengo”, il luogo dove si svolgevano le riunioni cittadine durante il medioevo.
Girate a sinistra e, seguendo le indicazioni, troverete la chiesa di San Giovanni Battista.
Qui cercate il numero (FG) alla base della porta laterale indicata nell'immagine dello Step 2:
Dirigetevi a N 40° 42.[(FG*8)+7]′ E 17° 20.[(FG*3)+20]’
Step 3
Recuperato il secondo indizio, proseguite dritto e poi girate alla prima a destra: vi troverete davanti alla basilica di San Martino e di fronte a essa si apre la piazza più caratteristica della città: piazza Maria Immacolata ma più comunemente detta “i Portici” (e non c’è bisogno di spiegarne il perché). Proseguite ancora dritto e al bivio andate verso destra dove troverete la chiesa di San Domenico.
Mettetevi di spalle all’entrata e scorgerete ancora la basilica da un angolo molto suggestivo.
Qui davanti a voi cercate l’unico numero (HI) che si ripete tre volte nel vicolo.
Andate a N 40° 42.[(HI*6)+26]′ E 17° 20.[(HI*4)+25]’
Step 4
Ritornate brevemente indietro e girate a sinistra su via Arco Casavola. Percorretela tutta e arriverete alle spalle della basilica. Qui proseguite dritto su via Caracciolo fino ad arrivare a una delle caratteristiche entrate minori della antica città fortificata: una postierla (da qui il nome della via, leggermente storpiato), cioè un’apertura che in passato era praticata in luogo nascosto e distante dalle porte principali per assicurare un passaggio di emergenza.
Sulla targa indicata in foto, prendete il numero più grande (JKLM) col quale potrete raggiungere il final.
Uscite dalla strettoia e preparatevi a recuperare la cache, non prima di aver goduto del panorama sulla valle!

Welcome to Martina Franca!
This multi will take you on a stroll through the historic center, discovering some of the city's most characteristic corners.
To begin, head toward the arch in front of you and enjoy your walk!
Step 1
Now known as the Arch of Sant'Antonio (Saint Anthony), it is one of the four gates that allowed entry to the city.
It was built along with the city walls in the 14th century and then renovated several times over the centuries, until the Baroque transformation, which eliminated all military defenses. At the top is a statue dedicated to San Martino (Saint Martin), the city's patron saint.
Under the arch is a small plastic plaque; look for the smaller year (ABCD) written in blue.
Go to N 40° 42. (2051-ABCD)' E 17° 20. (1986-ABCD)'
Step 2
After passing through the arch, you will officially be in the historic center. After passing Piazza Roma with its Ducal Palace (currently the town hall), you'll walk through the so-called "Ringo," a term derived from "arengo," the place where town meetings were held during the Middle Ages.
Turn left and, following the signs, you'll find the Church of San Giovanni Battista.
Here, look for the number (FG) at the base of the side door indicated in the image in Step 2:

Step 3
After finding the second clue, continue straight and then take the first right: you'll find yourself in front of the Basilica of San Martino, and in front of it lies the city's most characteristic square: Piazza Maria Immacolata, more commonly known as "i Portici" (and there's no need to explain why). Continue straight and at the fork, turn right where you'll find the Church of San Domenico (Saint Dominic).
Stand with your back to the entrance and you'll see the basilica again from a very picturesque angle.
Look for the single number (HI) in front of you, repeated three times in the dead-end street.
Go N 40° 42.[(HI*6)+26]′ E 17° 20.[(HI*4)+25]′
Step 4
Retrace your steps briefly and turn left onto Via Arco Casavola. Follow it to the end and you'll arrive behind the basilica. Here, continue straight on Via Caracciolo until you reach one of the characteristic minor entrances to the ancient fortified city: a postern (hence the slightly misspelled name of the street), an opening that in the past was hidden away and away from the main gates to ensure emergency passage.
On the plaque indicated by the arrow in the photo, take the largest number (JKLM) that will take you to the final.
Exit the narrow passage and prepare to retrieve the cache, but not before enjoying the view of the valley!
