Beside the Rails? – McAdam Pedestrian Tunnel
Welcome to the historic McAdam Pedestrian Tunnel, a hidden piece of railway history!
Step into McAdam’s past as you walk through this early 1900s pedestrian tunnel. Once a busy passage linking the McAdam Railway Station to nearby neighborhoods, it gave townsfolk and railway workers safe passage under the tracks to blacksmith shops, store buildings, a coaling plant, and a power house.
Generations of locals used this tunnel, from workers heading to the station, to school kids, and even geocachers today. Over time, the trains slowed, the station quieted, and the tunnel became more of a historic landmark than a necessity. But it still stands as a neat reminder of McAdam’s railway roots.
Modern Times
These days, the tunnel is a bit of a hidden gem. The tracks above may not be as busy as they once were, but the history here is alive and well. It’s a popular spot for photos, a stroll through the past, and now, a Geocache hunt!
Fun Tip: While you’re here, take a moment to walk through the tunnel and imagine the days when steam locomotives ruled the rails overhead.
