What is the REAL reason for the season of Christmas?
When people think of Christmas, many things come to mind: getting Christmas presents, having Christmas vacation from school or having a few days off from work due to the Christmas holidays, or watching Christmas movies, etc. But, do you know where we get the word “Christmas”?
This word actually was used before the 12th Century, and meant “Christ’s mass,” a church service that celebrated the birth of the historical figure, Jesus Christ.
A recent well-liked Christian singer (Anne Wilson) made popular the song, “I still believe in Christmas.” The Chorus begins with:
For God so loved this broken world, He sent His only son
To a carpenter and a teenage girl, To show us all His love
He left His home in Heaven, To make Heaven my home
My Emmanuel is with me, And I'll never be alone
And this is the true meaning of Christmas, celebrating God’s gift to us, the birth of His Son, Jesus, who came to give us Life. So, let’s enjoy the vacation time, the movies, and of course the presents! But hopefully, we will remember the Real meaning of Christmas each day of the year!
