St Peter‘s Church in St Albans is said to have been founded in 948 by Abbot Ulsinus along with two other churches in the area. This church was built at the northern entrance to the medieval town near the market. Nothing remains of the Saxon building with the current building heavily restored in 1893 by Lord Grimthorpe at his own expense and this is the church's current form bar some minor improvements in terms of lighting and disabled access. Of note is the 2006 installation of a 1/2 million pound Mander Pipe Organ.
The churchyard is a Living Churchyard which offers an area for wildlife and reflection. There is an apple orchard, wildflower meadow and a Garden of Hope witha Tree of Life sculpture. There area number of detailed information boards dotted around.
