We all know that geocaching can take us to interesting and weird places that we might have never heard of otherwise. I figured that events could be used in a similar manner to point out curious events and stories, various odds and sods, that I stumbled upon while wandering around in internet rabbit holes.
On this day
in 1566
Tycho Brahe, Danish astronomer, known for his comprehensive and unprecedentedly accurate astronomical observations, lost part of his nose in a sword duel with his third cousin Manderup Parsberg. The two got into a drunken quarrel over who was the superior mathematician while they were at an engagement party a few weeks earlier. On 29th December, the cousins resolved their feud with a duel in the dark. Tycho wore a prosthetic nose for the rest of his life.
