Scattered throughout Flat Rock are glacial erratics, large boulders left behind as ice sheets retreated thousands of years ago. These stones interrupt the forest floor with quiet permanence and offer shelter for small mammals and nesting sites for insects. Mosses and lichens thrive on their shaded surfaces, adding texture and color to the landscape. In autumn, leaves gather around their bases, while winter snow outlines their shapes in stark relief. These silent features invite reflection on the forces that shaped the sanctuary long before human visitors arrived.
Flat Rock Wildlife Sanctuary is open dawn to dusk only.
This geocache was released for The BarterDash game leading up to the Johnny Appleseed GeoFest in October, 2025.
