Geocache Description:

This is the westernmost public land in Weber County on the "mainland".

This cache is in the Ogden Bay Waterfowl Management Area. It is closed for nesting season: March 1 - August 1, or April 1 - September 1, depending on nesting seasons.

To reach the cache, go west on 12th Street. It will eventually become 9th Street. Turn off the paved road at the sportsman access, N41° 15.000 W112° 13.148, and proceed south. You will cross railroad tracks at a private crossing without signals, so watch for trains. The gate to the wetland is usually locked, except for waterfowl season, so park at the gate; there is enough room for a dozen cars. Proceed south from there to the sign that says, "Vehicles and firearms prohibited except during waterfowl hunting season", (N41° 14.656 W112° 13.134), where you should park if the gate is open. It is important that you do not walk along the railroad tracks. This is railroad property, so you could be fined and/or arrested for tresspassing and/or have your vehicle impounded.

You will need to walk south about a quarter mile along the road. Once you pass the sign that says "Ogden Bay Waterfowl Management Area", turn west. Follow the fence most of the way to the cache; it is a little over one mile. Most of the terrain is okay. But if it has recently rained, there is about a quarter mile of 1" deep mud, so wear some shoes that can take it. There are tire tracks in the mud, so someone has tried driving along the "road" in a vehicle. I nearly got stuck trying it in my car. This would be a 1/1.5 if not for the mud.

The fences to the north and to the west of the cache is where the railroad land starts. The track to the north is part of the Lucin Cutoff. This track across the Great Salt Lake cut miles off of the trip for trains to and from the west coast.
