Geocache Description:

To celebrate my bagging 1000 caches, and a significant birthday, I felt that I should place a few caches of my own. Where better than my home village, where I have lived for over 40 years?

Ewell has a very long history, stretching back 8000 years to the Stone Age.

In more recent times, it was a Romano – British settlement, and Stane Street passed through it (although it is not on the alignment of any modern – nor Medieval – roads)

All around the village is evidence of earlier times. There are Tudor and Georgian buildings in Church Street and Spring Street, as well as the imposing gateway to Bourne Hall, and numerous archaeological digs have revealed a plethora of finds from Roman, Saxon and the Bronze age.

The purpose of this trail of Geocaches, therefore, is to encourage you to see more of Ewell, and whet your appetite to explore further.

A lot more can be found by visiting the Bourne Hall Museum – where you can, also, use the facilities and get refreshments.

The walk starts at Bourne Hall, where parking is available (chargeable). There are, also, a couple of car parks near the High Street. Alternatively, there is an abundance of street parking available, from which you could start the walk.

Ewell West station is served from Waterloo, and there are several buses going through the village from Kingston, Epsom, Sutton and Morden.

This is the last cache in the loop and, coincidentally, could link up with the Ewell Heritage Trail, should you wish to find out more about the village. Mill Lane has many ‘weatherboarded’ cottages, one of which is actually mediaeval but shrouded in white timber.

Sadly, the original location for this cache was ‘Muggled’ twice within a fortnight, so I have relocated it.

Please note: My GPS and phone disagreed about the coordinates, when I was setting this, but the clue should make it obvious!
