Welcome to Cache of the Higlander!
Perched on the bench of Square Mountain just outside Cedar City, this cache combines adventure, stunning views, and a bit of Highland flair.
Recommended Route:
Start at the Pyramid Ridge Campground, an excellent base for both mountain bikers and hikers. Take the scenic "Breaks" bike trail, a challenging route with over 950 feet of elevation gain, to reach the ridgeline. From the top of the bike trail, continue on foot—expect a bit more climbing as you traverse smaller hills toward the cache location.
Trail Highlights:
You'll be treated to spectacular panoramic views of Cedar Valley and the Shurtz Creek area. The trail winds through groves of piñon and juniper, with plenty of interesting rocks for collectors along the way. Mountain biking enthusiasts will find nearby trails in the Iron Hills system, offering everything from easy rides to adrenaline pumping downhills.
Tips:
-
Allow extra time for the elevation and uneven terrain; it’s a serious workout with rewarding scenery.
-
Bring plenty of water—the terrain is exposed and can get hot, especially late in the day.
-
The campground is a great place to begin your journey and includes parking and basic amenities.
Cache Container:
Keep an eye out for a unique metal container shaped like a Highlander playing the bagpipes—complete with a kilt. It’s the perfect guardian for this rugged, scenic spot!
Enjoy exploring, and may the Highland spirit guide you to your find!
