Geocache Description:

A Jigidi for.....Eurobin

One in a series of caches to highlight the many towns, villages, hamlets, localities and crossroads around Victoria. (Based on a series of caches in South Australia, started by local SA cacher adelaideram)

NOTE : the cache IS NOT at the posted co-ordinates. Solve the Jigidi below.

EUROBIN

Eurobin is a locality in the Ovens Valley, and was known as Black Springs until 1870. It has been claimed that Eurobin is derived from a word in an unspecified Aboriginal name meaning "lake foot of mountain".

Hops are needed for beer! Notably, visitors will see hop farms that have been grown in the Ovens Valley from the 1890s.  The Pan Look brothers, descendants of Buckland Valley storekeepers and gold buyers, established a fifty acre hop garden at Eurobin in 1895 alongside their tobacco crop.  By the mid-1960s Pan Look’s “Rostrevor” Hop Gardens had become the largest in Victoria.

Today the Eurobin is more a “settlement” or locality and features Agritourism and the Mountains to Murray Rail Trail for cycling and some fabulous new sculptures.  Eurobin is surrounded by farms and orchards, including vineyards, berry farms, and a deer farm. Close by is St Clemens, a small 1910 non-denominational wedding church now restored.
