Where: Fort Williams Park, Cape Elizabeth, Maine
When: 10:00 AM January 1st, 2026
Maine's first geocache, GC128 The Fort Williams Cache is turning 25 years old! It was hidden by Richard Amirault and it's FTF wasn't until 26 days later on the 28th by ggates. The cache has had about 6,000 finders by the time of the event and is one of the most favorited caches in Maine. It has been depicted on numerous geocoins and local geocaching trinkets over the years too!
To help celebrate The Fort Williams Cache's 25th birthday we will congregate at the posted coordinates in the parking lot for the event from about 10:00 AM till 11:00 AM to trade stories and celebrate the new year with the local caching community. After the event is over, you are optionally invited to go to The Fort Williams Cache to wish it happy birthday!
Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizebeth has a Pay-to-Display parking system. Paid Parking is required on all paved lots with the unpaved overflow lot being free parking. However, due to this event occuring in January I can not confirm if the overflow parking will be plowed. The current parking rates at Fort Williams at the time of publishing are as follows:
- First 2 hours (minimum): $6
- Additional time: $2 per hour
