Repeating a fun series I did in Salt Lake City (and surrounding counties), this time basing the Sun at the clock tower in Riverfront Park. Eastern Washington Solar System (EWSS) caches are places approximant the correct distance from the “Sun”, using the scale of 1 mile equals 1 Astronomical Unit, or the Mean Distance from the Sun to the Earth.
Mercury, the innermost planet of the solar system and the eighth in size and mass. Its closeness to the Sun and its smallness makes it the most elusive of the planets visible to the unaided eye. Because its rising or setting is always within about two hours of the Sun’s, it is never observable when the sky is fully dark.
Mean distance from the Sun 57,909,227 km/0.39 AU
