The church was formed September 6, 1854 with nine charter members. They shared a union church with three other denominations on successive Sundays.
Then during The War Between the States, the town of Princeton was burned, leaving only two houses. On May 19, 1886. A lot was given from the McNutt family on North Walker Street and a church was erected. It cost about $4,000 and was dedicated on January 16, 1887.
In 1906 the Virginian railroad construction was started, and the population grew; The church had 125 members by 1912.
In 1921, a new building was started at 904 Mercer Street, and the cornerstone now placed at Ground Zero was laid. The brick church was completed in 1923.
By the mid 1950s traffic & parking on Mercer St were a problem. Plans were made to move here to West Main Street. The first part of the building was completed in 1964. The sanctuary was planned in 1976 and completed for Easter services in 1978. The pipe organ was installed in 1982
Pastor Ed Pettus was welcomed in 2001 and is still serving after 25 years.
