01 January 2026, 13:00 - 13:30
Usually, hosting the New Year's Day Hike is one of the privileges of being the SLAGA president. Another privilege is the ability to delegate some of the job duties. This year, cootie_man asked the SLAGA board to pick the location for the first event of the year. After much discussion, We decided to have the event at Laumeier Park. Since I live fairly close to the park, I offered to host. We will meet behind the office where we’ll enjoy snacks and drinks courtesy of our president, cootie_man. This will give us the chance to swap some Cachemas tales and chat about caching in general. This event is a half hour meet-and-greet BEFORE the hiking begins and everyone is welcome, whether you plan on hiking or not.
The posted coordinates are for the office patio. We'll meet at 1:00 p.m. on New Year's Day. The later start has been popular in recent years since it gives us all a chance to recover from New Year’s Eve celebrations. Hopefully it will also be a bit warmer than it would be if we had it earlier in the day. We'll hang around and visit until 1:30 p.m. before enjoying a hike and the many sculptures that decorate this park.
Afterwards, feel free to hike some of the other trails within the Laumeier Park or go to other areas within the Park to go caching.
