Join me to celebrate the shortest day of the year and hopefully see the sunset which is due at 15:33.
The winter solstice is the day of the year with the fewest hours of daylight and the longest night, occurring around December 21st in the Northern Hemisphere. It happens at the moment the Earth's North Pole is tilted furthest away from the Sun, marking the official start of winter astronomically. Historically, it has been celebrated with festivals like Yule and Saturnalia, many of which featured themes of light overcoming darkness.
