Geocache Description:

Normanville is 77 kilometres south of Adelaide and is the largest regional centre on the western side of the Fleurieu Peninsula, being situated next to the mouth of the Bungala River.

Known affectionately to locals as 'Normy', Normanville is a popular seaside resort town with long sandy beaches, good camping, and other accommodation choices.

The town was established by South Australia's first dentist, Robert Norman in 1849.

General houses for people were built first, followed by the general store, and the hotel.

This was quickly followed by the local Government House, which housed the Police Officer, courthouse, and jail cells.

Norman opened the Normanville Hotel in 1851, making it one of South Australia’s oldest Hotels, and then a church soon after, with the hotel becoming the host of the first district council meeting for the area.

The town eventually grew to become a successful wheat exporting area, using the nearby jetty at the current Normanville Beach as a port for ships coming and going.

However, with the development of Adelaide as the capital city, it lost its prior importance.

The Normanville Hotel (‘The Normy’) which is also one of the longest continuously family operated hotels in South Australia, will be the venue on this occasion.

Please refer to the Normanville Hotel Menu and Chef’s Specials for those who may like to indulge in some good ol' country fare!

I have booked for 15 and the cutoff for responses will be Friday 19th December at 12 Noon.

Note:

All are welcome. You can stay the entire time or just pop in for a minute....and of course there are a plethora of caches located in the surrounding areas and regions you may travel through to attend.

Eating and drinking is optional (however please consider supporting local business!)
