Geocache Description:

Said the one atom to the other "Hey, help me look around, I lost an electron." The second replied "Are you sure? I don't see it anywhere." "Of course I'm sure, I'm positive!"

Every five years (or so - because, ya' know, COVID), thousands of chemists descend upon Honolulu for the International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies, a.k.a. Pacifichem. Jointly hosted by the American Chemical Society, Canadian Society for Chemistry, Chemical Society of Japan, Chinese Chemical Society, Korean Chemical Society, New Zealand Institute of Chemistry, and the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, this conference aims to build international working relationships in the chemical sciences.

Unofficially, Pacifichem is also an excuse for a bunch of lab rats to kick back and relax in the Crossroads of the Pacific. And I figured, in such a huge group of my fellow nerds, there's got to be at least a few other geocachers, right? And of course, geocachers of all stripes and professions are welcome to attend, though I can't promise you'll get all the jokes. But come anyway!

Come one, come all, to Ala Moana Beach Park for a bit of socializing, tall-tale-telling (the cache was *this* high up the tree, I swear!), and trackable swapping. If I'm not too swamped with conference activities, there may be pūpūs (snacks). Come early and enjoy the sunset just before 6 pm (the Ewa (west) side of Magic Island is a great spot for that), then make your way over to the posted coords. We'll wrap up at the posted coords around 7:30 and stroll out to Magic Island to catch the fireworks from the Hilton, if you're so inclined.

Location is an easy stroll from the conference center, or easily accessible by city bus from Waikiki. See the waypoints for nearest transit stops. At the posted coords, look for me at one of the nearby picnic tables, or check for a host log if I've had to move elsewhere to find seating. I will do my best to find an ADA accessible spot, but we might have to be in the grass a little ways. Hope to see you there!
