Let’s get high together – all the way to Mount Kosciuszko’s summit!

The two main ways to reach the summit of Mount Kosciuszko are hiking from Thredbo Village, a shorter, easier option that uses the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift, or hiking from Charlotte Pass. This longer and more challenging 18.6 km round trip is a walk along a road (although I have heard, but not confirmed, that you can take bikes this way).
Join me as we go up via Thredbo Village and the chairlift. The information below pertains to this route.
I will pop a few links below for much more detailed information about the walk, which I encourage everyone to read before committing to the hike.
Getting there
Drive to Thredbo Ski Resort, New South Wales (entry fee: $17 per vehicle per day). Passes are available from entry stations or via the Park'nPay app.
Take the chairlift ($60 pp return) https://shop.thredbo.com.au/l/scenic-passes/p/scenic-lift-pass)
The walk from the top of the chairlift is 13km return, with 300m of elevation. This is a gentle slope along a steel mesh walkway.

NB: You can also walk up Merritts Nature Track from Thredbo Village to the top of the chairlift. This challenging 4km track takes about 2-3 hours to complete uphill.
If you would like to join me for the hike up the mountain, please meet at the base of the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift at Thredbo Resort at 8:30 am, with the aim of having everyone up the chairlift to start the hike by 9.00 am.
I am allowing just over 2.5 hours from the base of the chairlift to reach our high, which will cater for us slowpokes. For the fastpokes, leave later and wave as you pass us.
Please bring water, food, warm clothing, cool clothing, and sunscreen.
If the weather turns foul, I will relocate the event to the Thredbo Visitor’s Centre. Please log your will attend to be kept in the loop.
