The Geocaching Christmas Pickle is a beloved Fox Valley tradition that blends holiday whimsy with outdoor adventure.
Each year, near the Winter Solstice, a glass pickle ornament is secretly hidden as a special bonus near a series of seasonal geocache hides. On Winter Solstice morning, geocachers race to be the first to locate this festive “mystery pickle.”
Whoever logs the First to Find not only earns bragging rights but also receives a unique prize, said to bring good luck to the cacher throughout the coming year. Though the pickle ornament is often associated with supposed German folklore, this version of the tradition is proudly and playfully rooted in the local geocaching community.
