Geocache Description:

In honour of the WW1 soldiers named on the Keyworth Memorial on Nottingham Road - the 3 new housing estates Nicker Hill, Keyworth Rise and Spinners Croft all take their street names from the soldiers who gave thier lives in World War One.  Sadly, there are 6 men whose surnames are not named on these estates which I will be still honouring.  These caches are placed in honour of their memories - the fallen soldiers are all local to Keyworth in some way.  Many of these families were long established in the small community of Keyworth (787 total population made up of 372 males and 415 female - as in 1911 census summary books).

Edward Arthur Parr was born in 1896 in Nottingham and was the son of  Thomas & Florence G Parr (nee Smith). . His father Thomas was born in Epperstone, Nottinghamshire and his mother Florence came from London.  Edward's siblings were Edith Mary, Charles, and Florence.

His Fathers parents were Joseph & Sarah Parr (nee Hollingsworth).  His Mothers parents were William & Mary Ann Smith (nee Reading).

Edward appears In the 1901 census aged 5 with his family at Park Street, Nottingham - his father was a Surveyor.  In 1911 Edward aged 15 and his siblings Charles and Edith are with their Grandfather Thomas Smith and Aunt Sarah Ann Smith at Cromwell Street, Nottingham.  His parents Thomas and Gertrude and other sibling Florence are on Castle Boulevard visiting Mary Smith.  Edward's occupation is Post Office messenger.

His connection to Keyworth is taken from The Nottingam Evening Post of March 1916 reporting his death as ' of Keyworth'  and his address is listed as Keyworth in the UK Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914-1919.

Edward Arthur Parr private 3907 enlisted in 1915 and served with the 23rd Battalion The Royal Fusiliers (City of London).  He died on 10th February 1916 aged 20 years.  He was awarded the Victory Medal and British War Medal.

The Cache  -  This is a straight forward cache placed on Wolds Drive.
