Chilton GeoCache Series

After our recently placed GeoCache Series at Great Western Park (GWP) (cache #1-11, 14, 17-19), in central Didcot (cache #12-13, 15-16, 20-25), and at Harwell Campus (cache #26), we decide to place a few more caches in other parts of Didcot and surrounding villages, in order to honour local heros, and to reflect our rich local history, stories and heritage. We hope you will enjoy these new caches and may also learn something when you are caching, thank you!

Chilton #27 - Chilton Community room (Officially known as Village Hall Series 1773 - Chilton)

The Chilton Community Room is located at the Chilton Field Recreation Ground, and is an attractive and practical venue for social gatherings, meetings, family parties and activities requiring a smaller space.

There is a tarmac car park with spaces for approximately 12 cars. The rear of the community room opens onto a small enclosed children’s play area and is surrounded by an attractive green space.

The Community Room is a spacious, bright room that can accommodate up to 60. The room has a small attached kitchenette which has basic facilities including a sink, microwave, refrigerator, electric kettle and hot water flask. Basic crockery and cutlery is supplied. Other facilities include disabled toilets with nappy change area and an outside play area for younger children to the rear of the Community Room. We have comfortable folding chairs and folding tables, each of which can seat up to 6. All furniture is stored and transportable on trolleys, and there are store cupboards for all the furniture if an open empty space is required. Dimensions of hall area 8.5 x 7.5m, 63.6 msq

About this multi-cache:

This is our 6th multi-cache, and any comments and suggestions are welcome.

At the published coordinates, you will find the community room. On one of its external walls there is a defibrillator, what is the location code of this defibrillator? Let it be ABCDE.

For the letters in the above location code, translate each letter to a number using A = 1, B = 2, ..., I = 9, J = 0, K = 1, ... method.

The final coordinates are a short distance away at:

N51 34. ( C - E ) ( D - A - B ) ( A + E )

W001 18. ( A + B + D ) ( C - A - B ) ( C - E + B )

The checksum of all the digits in the final coordinates is 42.

Please also note:

Please bring your own pen, and open & close the cache lid carefully so the cache and log book can survive longer. You might need a tweezer to help retrieve the log paper.

Please also replace exactly as found due to obvious reason, and please be careful with the possible thorns, stinging nettles, and overhead tree branches! Long sleeves, trousers, and gloves are recommended.

You do not need to cross any fence or enter any private land.

Thank you and enjoy GeoCaching!

FTF: Congratulations to rosela for their FTF on 6 December 2025!
