These fields are home of the Barbarians Rugby Club, which started life as a junior rugby club back in 2002. Over the years, it managed to field a mostly full contingent of junior teams, playing in both the Far North Coast Rugby and Gold Coast Rugby Unions. In 2017, the club fielded its first senior team in the Far North Coast Rugby Union. In 2017 the Club also fielded its first ever women’s 7s side in competition. Today, the club caters for under 6s through to Senior Men’s and Women’s. Juniors play in both the Gold Coast District Rugby Union competition as well as Northern NSW. Senior first grade, Reserve grade, Women’s and Colts team all play in the Northern Rivers competition. The club has produced some exceptional players who have gone on to district and state levels, NRC and even Super Rugby.
When not in use for rugby, the fields are a popular spot to walk dogs or exercise. The path on the eastern side offers a convenient thoroughfare from the Casuarina Rec Centre to the Casuarina Village shopping centre.
This GC replaces the first Barbarians cache which was located on the scoreboard facing Tweed Coast Road. It kept disappearing so I made the decision to archive and replace it. Barbarians reborn is in a new, harder-to-see and muggle-resistant spot. Please take care to ensure it goes back into place as it is just a bit finnicky to get right (you will understand when you find it). Bring a pen. Happy GC hunting.
