Why is it called a cup of Joe? There are several theories.
The first has to do with a prohibition on alcohol on Navy shipos by the secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels. This forced sailors to drink coffee instead, so they refered to it as a cup of Joe.
A New York Coffee company founded by Joe Martinson ( Martinson Coffee ) used Cup of Joe to market its coffee.
Jave and Mocha were two coffee producing regions that was referred to as Jamoke and later simplified as Joe
So we may never learn the real reason it is called a cup of Joe
