Wakefield Reserve used to share a boundary with Stanvac Primary School. Stanvac Primary School was sold off and redeveloped into a housing estate. The developer then wanted to expand the housing estate to include Wakefield Reserve. The local residents launched an appeal against turning Wakefield Reserve into a housing estate. Petitions were signed and the local residents fought to keep the reserve. After a war of paperwork, the residents won. As a reward for winning the war the council upgraded the reserve with a new playground, shelter sheds and a small basketball court.
