Some years ago, there was a brickpit in Eastwood - I remember going there early before work to choose a brick close to our existing house as we were about to do an extension. The brickpit is long gone and it is now a relatively new housing estate (Cavenstone) with the remains of the kilns and chimney being seamlessly included in the central park. It's well worth having a look around and reading the signs explaining what each of the old buildings were used for - a bit of a history lesson.
At the south west corner of the Cavenstone Estate, off Birchgrove Crescent, there are stairs leading to a boardwalk that is part of the Terry's Creek Walk. Here you may find the odd brush turkey or two scrabbling around in the undergrowth. The walk is close to a fenced retention pit. DO NOT ENTER the retention pit under any circumstances.
Parking is available in Birchgrove Crescent or Skenes Avenue. Bus route 545 from Parramatta to Macquarie Centre goes along Terry Road, alight at the closest stop to Spencer Street and it is a 10 minute walk.
