Craig Anderson is one of the most important players in Ottawa Senators history and is widely regarded as the greatest goaltender the modern franchise has ever had.
Anderson joined the Senators during the 2010–11 season and quickly established himself as the team’s number-one goalie. Over the next decade, he became a cornerstone of the franchise, known for his calm demeanor, durability, and ability to deliver elite performances under pressure.
During his time in Ottawa, Anderson set numerous franchise records, including most wins, most games played, and most shutouts by a Senators goaltender. He was consistently relied upon to shoulder a heavy workload, often ranking among league leaders in minutes played and saves.
One of the defining moments of Anderson’s Senators career came during the 2017 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Despite facing immense personal adversity as his wife Nicholle battled cancer, Anderson delivered an extraordinary postseason performance. He backstopped Ottawa to within one goal of the Stanley Cup Final, falling in double overtime of Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final. His resilience and composure during that run earned widespread respect across the hockey world.
Beyond his on-ice achievements, Anderson became a leader in the locker room and a fan favorite in Ottawa. His perseverance, professionalism, and loyalty during challenging seasons helped define the identity of the team through multiple eras.
