I will be hosting my first ever event, and it will be an "Introduction to Geocaching" for the general public. All are welcome whether you are a seasoned pro and have been playing for years...or if you have never heard of it and are just curious.
The event will be Saturday, February 7th from 1-3pm.
This event came about after I approached the Kittanning library about possibly putting a geocache at the library. I showed up one afternoon with a crate full of all kinds of different containers and was explaining all about Geocaching to the library staff. It turns out, that I guess the library used to have a geocache located inside, but it has since been archived. Of course, this was before I started playing the game and was unaware. I had a pretty cool idea for a geocache, but the idea would be better suited for an indoor environment. I started looking around at some local libraries and I noticed that the Kittanning library did not have a geocache and it was far enough away from the next closest one that I thought this idea might just work. The library liked my idea and was excited to accept my offer. After our conversation, and before I left, the library asked if I would like to host an event to explain to the public what geocaching is. So, I graciously accepted. It was in the back of my mind that I might be asked this question so it did not take me completely by surprise.
There will be a new geocache published for this event at the library. It will be a rather different kind of geocache than most are used to.
Anyone who is coming and would also like to talk and explain to others who might show up the aspects of the game....you are more than welcome to. I will explain the basics, but the more people who talk and give a different perspective, the more interested the public might be.
There will also be several new geocache's placed around town to add some excitement for the event.
