Stary Port
Kiedyś Stary Port w Bydgoszczy był tętniącym życiem centrum handlowym miasta. The Old Port
The Old Port of Bydgoszcz was once a bustling commercial center of the city. Since the Middle Ages, barges and rafts have docked here, transporting grain, timber, and other goods along the Brda River and the Bydgoszcz Canal. The port played a key economic role, and its surroundings were filled with granaries, warehouses, and workshops, providing a base for merchants and craftsmen. At the end of the 19th century, the monumental Main Post Office building was also built near the port, a symbol of modernity and Bydgoszcz's growing importance as a major administrative center.
Over time, with the development of railways and modern forms of transport, the port's importance gradually declined. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Old Port ceased to be the main transshipment point, but retained its historic character. The Main Post Office building, constructed in the neo-Gothic style, became one of the architectural dominants of this part of the city and a witness to the transformations that took place in Bydgoszcz at the turn of the century.
Today, the Old Port is a pedestrian and cultural space, one of the city's landmarks. The Brda River boulevards attract residents and tourists alike, hosting outdoor events, and the river comes alive again with cruise ships and water trams.
