Geocache Description:

The Junior Deputy baseball program was founded in 1947 in Little Rock, Arkansas, by Pulaski County Sheriff Tom Gulley

The primary mission of the organization was to provide a healthy, positive environment for local youth as an alternative to potentially falling into trouble. By offering positive role models and the opportunity to develop skills through sports, Sheriff Gulley aimed to strengthen the community and build stronger individuals.

Its current fields in Little Rock were built on the grounds of the City Water Works a year after the organization's debut.

Charles E. Bussey Jr., who later became Little Rock's first African American mayor, served as a deputy sheriff and was instrumental in organizing and managing the program from 1950 to 1969.

The Junior Deputy baseball program transitioned to being run independently by a volunteer, parent-led organization in the late 1990s. It is now run by a separate 501(c)(3) non-profit entity relying on community support and volunteers, including parents who serve as coaches and on the board of directors.

This is a micro cache with a pencil and log.

Parking is available.  There is a 7 foot climb if you approach the cache directly, but that can be avoided by using the stairs close by and walking over rather climbing.
