The Fredericton Region Museum will commemorate the storied winter 1813 march of the 104th (New Brunswick) Regiment of Foot, which trekked over 1,100 kilometres from Fredericton to Kingston to support British forces in Upper Canada.
Visitors will have the opportunity to:
- Experience a short interpretive presentation or walking talk on the march, depicting the extreme conditions, hardships, and historical significance of the regiment’s trek.
- Experience the opportunity to dress like a soldier of the 104th Regiment of Foot and have photo taken.
- Receive a map with a passport booklet and embark on our geocaching trail, which traces key points along the regiment’s route (or corresponding local markers).
- Learn how to geocache! Visit https://www.youtube.com/user/GoGeocaching#cat=cat:newbies&vid=1YTqitVK-Ts
- As participants locate each geocache and record their finds (date, location, and cache code) in their passport, they engage directly with history. The first 40 participants who log 15 or more caches will be eligible to receive a commemorative 104th Regiment geocoin (while supplies last).
- This geocaching project is already active through the Museum’s “March of New Brunswick 104th Geocoin” program. By integrating it into the festival, we expand public participation and bring the march story alive in a participatory, outdoor format.
Volunteers required to lead groups in search of geocaches. Please indicate in your "Will Attend" log.
