The Lonely One looks out of place on the vast, mountainous landscape, as all the others have been eaten! With The Lonely One being very close to my family home, as soon as I got into geocaching last year, I knew right away I wanted to make this my first hiding spot!
Route 1 - The route 1 waypoints illustrate a fairly easy route but wellies are recommended to traverse some wet ground and the meandering river. However, it will only be usable when the weather has not been too rainy, otherwise the river will be too high to cross to get to The Lonely One. DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THIS RIVER AND ATTEMPT TO CROSS THE RIVER WHEN IT IS IN HIGH FLOOD - it is called Nant Garw, which translates to rough/wild river, for a reason! Also, please beware of the fast road next to Route 1's recommended car park - people love to push their cars and motorbikes to the limit over this mountain pass!
Route 2 - In this instance, you may need to walk the long way round to get onto the correct side of the river. However, this option does not offer a defined path and in rainy season, may lead you across very boggy ground. I have offered a carparking area and some other rough waypoints for Route 2 to get you started in avoiding private property and being in the correct area, but after this, you still have a long walk and it is your decision how to tackle safely and successfully reaching The Lonely One. The only advice I can offer is that you need to follow the Nant Garw (the river) to the Lonely One, now that you are on the correct side of it. You can also use the mountain road pass for reference - this should always be in your sight. The valley, however, is steep in places.
Please use common sense and take care whilst traversing wild, mountainous moorland, with uneven rocky surfaces, steep drops and hidden marshy bogs. The weather can also change quickly, meaning visibility in such areas can suddenly decrease massively. Be careful in this environment with Geohounds, Geokids, and of course, yourself!
Placed with four trackables inside, a log, a pen and some cute swag! You are looking for a medium sized tupperware lunchbox, and you may need to climb a little - please take care! This is my first hide of hopefully many, so any constructive criticism is highly welcome! Placed with my nephews, Jack and Owen, and the Geohounds, Noodle and Gwen.
