Geocache Description:

NOTE!! The City of Buffalo website indicates that Delaware Park hours are from sunrise until 10:00 PM.   Its my opinion that caching at this location any time after sunset would be imprudent thus the no night caching icons have been illuminated.

I often travel on the Scajaquada Expresway (Route 198) on my way home from some of my hangouts in a previous life.   I have noticed and become intriqued by a monument I can see as I merge onto the Scajaquada from the Delaware Ave southbound ramp.  The monument seems to sit there unloved with no reasonable means of access and I have becomed consumed as to why its there, what it memorializes, and how to get to it.   Today being a somewhat gorgeous January afternoon I decided to abandon my normal route home and approach this monument on foot to learn more about it.   You can certainly bushwhack to the monument from the sidewalk on the west side of Delaware Ave but I found a safer access point from a stairway on the east side of Delaware which leads to a pedestrian bridge along side the Scajaquada.  It is marked as a trailhead in the included waypoints.

Once you reach the monument which I would describe at about 5 feet tall with 5 different plaques attached to it and it seems to commemerate a tree planting in the area.   Some of the information is difficult to read but with a little effort and a perhaps a few sheets or tracing paper I'm sure you will be able to gather the information you require.

The final cache is a micro container about the size of a film canister and can be found at

                                      N42 5A.BCD  W078 5E.FGH

To solve for A,B,C and D use the information contained on the top plaque of the monument.

A = THE SUM OF THE FIRST AND LAST DIGIT IN THE YEAR THE TREE WAS PLANTED

B = THE LAST DIGIT IN THE YEAR BIDWELL POST NUMBER  9 WAS ORGANIZED

C = NUMBER OF LETTERS CONTAINED IN THE ONLY WORD ON THE SECOND LINE OF THE PLAQUE

D = FIND THE J.W. WILKENSON POST NUMBER AND SUBTRACT THE SECOND DIGIT FROM THE FIRST

To solve for the E, F, G and H focus on the tree 10 feet to the north west of the monument and find the silver tag with four digits on it.   The Buffalo Parks Dept uses these tags to maintain an inventory of flora in the park. Heck they might use the tags on the park fauna as far as I know.  It seems I've seen some of the squirrels sporting some bling latley.  Anyway, I'm including that information to allieviate any concerns of a particular reviewer who might have suspicions I created and placed  the tag on the tree thus creating a physical leg not distance compliant with a cache across the road.  I assure you the tag was attached to the tree long before I made my way to the area and as of this writing I haven't been able to get my hands on any squirrels to tag them.

E = THE RESULT OF DIVIDING THE SECOND DIGIT ON THE TAG BY THE FOURTH

F = THE SUM OF ADDING THE THIRD DIGIT TO THE FIRST

G = THE DIGITAL ROOT OF THE FOUR DIGIT NUMBER

H = THE RESULT OF SUBTRACTING THE THIRD DIGIT FROM THE FOURTH

There you go. Final cache should be winter accessible as long as the snow isn't Pi deep.  Thanks for being probably one of the very few people to have visited this monument.  Perhaps it won't be as lonley any longer.
