The German anti-aircraft shelters in Loutraki Carbonari were built in the early 1940s by the German army, belonging to the wider network of general fortifications of the Corinth Canal, although they are located at a distance of 1 – 1.5 km from it. They are located at a depth of approximately 10-12 m, and are simple structures with one or two central chambers and the access galleries of the staircases that lead to the two (for each shelter) entrances.
The coastal town of Loutraki, built at the foot of Mount Geraneia, is located approximately 4 km from Corinth and 84 km from Athens. Loutraki is a popular tourist destination, renowned for its natural mineral and therapeutic springs since the 1930s, as well as for being one of Europe's most luxurious casino resorts. This modern spa town, situated on the coast of the Corinthian Gulf, is lively and active year-round, but especially so in the summer months.
Thanks to its ultra-modern thermal facilities, high-quality conference centers, beautiful and pristine beaches, numerous accommodation, dining and entertainment options, and the proximity of remarkable archaeological and religious monuments, museums and natural attractions, Loutraki is an ideal tourist destination all year round.
The cache
It’s not necessary to go into the shelters to find the cache, but I will warm recommend it. The location of the cache is nearby the most easiest staircase to go inside. Going inside is at your own risk and don’t forget a flashlight and bring your own pen.
