Geocache Description:

Fettisdagen / Shrove Tuesday

Join us for a geocaching event celebrating Fettisdagen, a traditional day with roots across Europe and beyond!

Fettisdagen is the Swedish name for Shrove Tuesday, the day before Lent begins in the Christian calendar. Historically, it was the last chance to enjoy rich, indulgent foods before a period of fasting and reflection.

🌍 What is it called around the world?

  • 🇸🇪 Sweden – Fettisdagen
Famously celebrated by eating semlor: cardamom buns filled with almond paste and whipped cream. Many Swedes would say it’s one of the tastiest days of the year!

  • 🇬🇧 United Kingdom – Shrove Tuesday / Pancake Day
Known for pancakes, often enjoyed with lemon and sugar. Pancake races are a fun and quirky local tradition in some towns.

  • 🇫🇷 / 🇺🇸 France & USA – Fat Tuesday / Mardi Gras
A day of rich food, festivities, and celebrations before Lent. In places like New Orleans, Mardi Gras is a huge cultural event with parades and music.

  • 🇩🇪 Germany – Fastnacht / Fasching
Celebrated with carnivals, costumes, and plenty of food before the fasting season begins.
