The elusive ptarmigan is a master of disguise and a hardy, mountain dwelling member of the grouse family known for its extreme seasonal camouflage, you may not find this bird as they live in California's high Sierra Nevada mountains and in Alaska but however you have a good chance of spotting "My Ptarmigan" as we frequent these trails often. He is a bit different from the species described, has black fur, stands about 17" and weighs 30lbs, but shares the same name! See photos for a glimpse of the elusive Ptarmigan!
