Geocache Description:

The iconic view of Otter Head at the eastern end of Budleigh Salterton's pebble beach is defined by its striking red Triassic sandstone cliffs and a distinctive row of Scots pine trees that silhouette the skyline along the cliff edge. This location marks the dramatic intersection where the River Otter flows through a narrow mouth into Lyme Bay, with a large shingle spit that separates the tranquil, meandering river from the crashing waves of the sea. The scene is popular with artists and photographers, capturing the contrast between the vivid 200+ million year old red geology and the fertile salt marshes of the Otter Estuary Nature Reserve immediately in front of it.

There are slopes at either end of the Lime Kiln car park leading to the coordinates above which are easily accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. The promenade continues to the east with level gravelly paths leading directly to the estuary mouth.
