Bonjour! Point Zéro des Routes de France is know also known as kilometre zéro located just steps from the grand entrance of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. This site has been in place for over 200 years, long before gps, marking road distances to cities and towns in relation to Point Zéro, and for which modern highways were mapped. Located in the 1st Arrondisement, Point Zéro is considered to be the heart of Paris, as well as the heart of all of France. We will have an opportunity to discuss the origins of Point Zéro and it's current function in Paris. What is the distance from your home to Point Zéro des Routes de France?
This event is an opportunity to meet geocachers both local and international, plan ahead to swap pathtags and TB's, and more! You may want to bring (travel size) travel bugs, or anything else to share or swap related to being in the heart of Paris, in the heart of France. Everyone is welcome to bring your café crème and croissant along with the names of your favorite boulangerie's!
Please note that: 1.) during the reconstruction of Notre Dame from 2019 to 2024 the actual Point Zéro marker was removed to protect it from destruction, the marker may have not yet been replaced. Aim for gz, look for the circle shape in the pavement. 2.) If the lines are long for visitors to enter Notre Dame Cathedral, we will move a short distance west-north-west.
