π¬π§ A rockfall is a type of fast-moving landslide that occurs when rock or soil breaks loose, bounces, or rolls down a cliff or very steep slope. Rockfalls originate from high outcrops of hard, erosion-resistant rock that, for various reasons, become unstable. The size of falling rocks depends on the geology of the source area (layer thickness, dip and direction of strata, hardness, orientation of fractures/faults), weathering, and the position and steepness of the slope.
Usually, a single rockfall releases only one or a few rocks, ranging in size from gravel to boulders (from about five centimeters to more than one and a half meters in diameter). When a large amount of rock collapses and the resulting fall spreads into a cone-shaped deposit, it is referred to as a rockslide or even a debris avalanche. Rockfalls can be very dangerous depending on where they occur, how large the falling rocks are, and how quickly they move or bounce down the slope.
If people, buildings, vehicles, or roads are in the path of movement, these events can cause property damage, injuries, or even loss of life. Rockfalls can also pose unexpected hazards on roads, where they may damage vehicles that suddenly collide with or drive over freshly fallen rocks.

π¬π§ Slope movements, also known as landslips, rockslips, or rockslides, are several forms of mass wasting that may include a wide range of ground movements, such as rockfalls, mudflows, shallow or deep-seated slope failures, and debris flows. Slope movements occur in a variety of environments, characterized by either steep or gentle slope gradients, from mountain ranges to coastal cliffs or even underwater, in which case they are called submarine slope movements.
Gravity is the primary driving force for a slope movement to occur, but there are other factors affecting slope stability that produce specific conditions making a slope prone to failure. In many cases, the slope movement is triggered by a specific event (such as heavy rainfall, an earthquake, a slope cut to build a road, and many others), although this is not always identifiable.
Slope movements are frequently made worse by human development (such as urban sprawl) and resource exploitation (such as mining and deforestation). Land degradation frequently leads to less stabilization of soil by vegetation.

π¬π§ Stone seas represent a specific form of stone covers that form on slopes and hilltops. The stone fragments, often angular to slightly rounded, accumulate and create extensive blocks that cover the terrain forming stone seas.
Stone seas mostly formed during periods of periglacial climate when repeated freezing and thawing of water in rock cracks caused them to break apart. This process occurs mainly on the surface but partly below it. Over time the stone blocks are freed from finer material and accumulate in areas with a suitable slope covering more than fifty percent of the hillside.
Stone seas are classified as boulder or rubble depending on the size of the stone fragments. Boulder seas contain larger stones with a diameter of at least twenty five centimeters while rubble seas consist of smaller fragments and are less stable. The finer material moves down the slope due to gravity especially on steeper slopes above twenty degrees leading to frequent movement of stones and reshaping of the terrain which is characteristic of areas exposed to natural forces.
