Geocache Description:

Web-ling cache #58

Mark your calendars!

The 2003 Texas State Geocaching Extravaganza will be held the weekend of March 29-30, 2003, at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch near Bridgeport, Texas. The event is being hosted by the Longhorn Council, BSA, and will be held in conjunction with their annual Spring Orienteering Meet.

PRE-REGISTRATION THROUGH THE SCOUTS WILL BE REQUIRED. The registration packet is now available at this link in .pdf format.
The details of the event are still coming together, but some of the planned highlights include:
  • Two different 2-day timed multi-caches (do one multi-cache on Saturday, one on Sunday, add the times together.) The first will be a hybrid orienteering/multicache with a map showing the locations as well as the coordinates (1/3, 10 points each day). The second will be a traditional multi-cache (approx 4/3.5, 10 points each day ). Choose one or the other. Or, if you prefer, there will also be 6 different regulation orienteering courses available. There will be awards given by age category for each course, plus the overall fastest time on each GPS course will win a copy of ExpertGPS, donated by the author of the program.
  • Night-time "Murder Mystery" cache hunt event, sort of a cross between a multi-cache and a game of "Clue."
  • 20 caches, of varying degrees of difficulty.
  • Geocaching seminars on various topics. Scheduled topics so far include:

BONUS CACHE! There will be one very difficult BONUS CACHE, containing a certificate for a SPECIAL PRIZE

Originally, we had planned to give away a Garmin RINO 120, but due to low registration, this will no longer be possible. Instead, the prize will be a large-scale collector Hot Wheel car and 3 very nice collectible Barbie dolls.

Sid Richardson Scout Ranch is a 2500+ acre ranch west of beautiful Lake Bridgeport in North Texas. Many types of caches will be available for geocaching, ranging from easy 1/1 caches to a 4/4 multicache. All but 2 cache containers are small ammo boxes, and there will be 20 caches (plus 1 BONUS cache) in all.

Since Geocaching.com will no longer approve temporary caches, all of the caches found at the event will be logged on this single cache page. The caches that can be logged include:

1. The event itself

"EVENT"
2. One GPS course or the other
"HYBRID COURSE" or "GPSr-ONLY COURSE"
3. The night time "Murder Mystery" cache
"NIGHT-O"
4. 20 regular caches.
"SR-1" through "SR-20"
5. BONUS cache

So it is possible that someone could have 24 Found logs for this one single cache.

Please indicate which cache you are logging at the beginning of each log entry. Each of the physical caches will be named "SR-1" through "SR-20."
NOTE: THE WAY DAN'S STATS PAGE DATABASE IS SET UP, IT WILL ONLY GIVE YOU "CREDIT" FOR ONE LOG PER DAY ON THE SAME CACHE PAGE. IF YOU WANT YOUR STATS TO REFLECT MULTIPLE FINDS, POST-DATE (OR PRE-DATE) YOUR LOGS SO THEY ARE ALL ON DIFFERENT DATES. GEOCACHING.COM WILL GIVE YOU CREDIT, REGARDLESS
