The metal handrail with Bergen and all
other information plaques have been removed. I suspect stolen
for scrap as have other metal items in the area. If this is
still the case when you arrive go directly to N54 57.876 W001
27.222 which will take you to the footpath leading to the
park.
When you get to the coordinates walk towards Bergen, ahead you
will see a road, walk along the road to the other side of the
bridge, turn left onto the footpath leading to Chirton Dene Park
(don't go down the steps ), in the park are a number of small
footbridges, find the one with WHAT on it, (may be difficult if
there is snow or ice on the ground) stand on WHAT and with your
compass project a line at 309 deg for approximately 50 meters, you
should be looking at a group of large boulders, the cache is just
beyond.
The cache is a white 1.5 ltr plastic food container, it contains
the usual Bits ’N Bobs, Log Book and pencil.
This cache is in what is 200 acres of regenerated land on the
North Bank of the River Tyne, the site consists of Industry,
Housing, Shopping and Leisure facilities, bringing an area of
former dereliction back to life. Free car parking is available at
the Royal Quays Shopping Centre, best to park near the Royal Quays
pub, the Wet ‘N Wild is just across the road and is Europe's
largest and most exiting indoor water fun park, so don’t forget
your swimming trunks.
