The cache is located less than 3/4 mile from the California Conservation Corp building (snow park) on top of Echo Summit. Elevation gain is less than 300 feet. You can park in the snow park for a fee of $5.00 Nov. through May and park for free the rest of the year. Snowshoes or cross country skies will be needed to visit this cache in winter. Easy to get to in winter but a painful hike through brush other times during the year.
I placed this cache in honor of our outdoor wilderness program that the middle school I teach at has each winter (WOWEE). The students learn about plotting a course on a compass, avalanche safety, signal fire building and how to build an emergency snow shelter. I teach a technology class at the school and this year I introduced how to use a GPS and showed them the geocache website. Using the computers in the classroom and the geocache website I plan for them to locate the cache and bring with them something to trade when they search for the cache. I also think it would be great for them to read the log book and see other people who have visited the cache who are not students at the school.
