World's Fair expositions have been held on a regular basis since 1851. True to their name they occur in countries all over the world, and they afford people from all walks of life the opportunity to view and demonstrate their special skills, trades, and cultures. Held on smaller scales in ancient times, these fairs have become huge international productions with large budgets and big ideas. The modern era of World's Fairs came about in the 1850s with the rise of Industrial Revolution. Since this time of technological and mechanical advancement, cities hosting World's Fairs have invested in building impressive, original structures that often remain long after the Fair has gone. Many of these creations become landmarks in their regions.

An example of what we're looking for is in Knoxville, Tennessee, which hosted the World's Fair in 1982. Several of the landmark structures erected for that expo remain standing today, including the Sunsphere, a 266-ft tall steel tower which was the centerpiece of the exhibition. It once housed a revolving restaurant but is now an observation deck.

Your mission:
(1) Find a structure remaining from a World's Fair expo that has been held anywhere around the world.
(2) Document your find with GPS coordinates and photos of the landmark structure built for and used in the Fair at the location you have chosen.
Photos must show you and/or your GPS in front of the structure. Photos of signs recognizing it as/or pointing you towards a World's Fair location will also be very helpful and interesting.

(3) Provide a link to a site online that gives info about the expo structure you've chosen (Optional but informative)

Only one find per cacher, and one find per structure allowed. Please log only one structure in your find.

- Locations of past World's Fairs
(Check the blue column on the left alphabetically for World's Fair Guide)

- Upcoming exposition tentative dates and locations
- ExpoMuseum.com

Important:
- If your city of choice has hosted more than one World's Fair expo, be prepared to indicate the year of the structure you've chosen.

- If you choose a Fair location that has no structures remaining from its expo, but can provide GPS coordinates, photos (with you and GPS) at the location as it looks today, and some brief info about the Fair that occurred there, this will be an acceptable log as long as we can verify its history online.
An example of this type of situation exists in New Orleans, which hosted the 1984 World's Fair. Two interesting structures, a monorail and gondolas, were built for this expo. They were subsequently taken down and no longer exist, but their original locations are still known (as described here).
If you can show us an online description of a once-existing World's Fair structure and its location, then visit the expo site as it appears today for photos and coordinates, we will accept this as a find. We regard this as valuable, interesting information that documents the changes that occur as these massive exhibitions make their mark and then again become absorbed by the cities that host them.

Any suspicious logs will investigated and deleted if found to be deceitful. Please feel free to email us with any questions you may have regarding logging a find for this locationless cache.
