Park at N42 13.700, W88 11.905. The park name suggests open, flat land but there are small hills and interesting trees all along the path.
The cache is accessible from the horse trail. Please use the horse trail and DO NOT cut across from other trails. Much of the area is a dedicated nature preserve with sensitive and rare plants. Tickets could be issued for walking off trail.
LYONS PRAIRIE AND MARSH will be closed Nov 1-Jan 15. PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO ENTER THE PARK DURING THIS TIME.
We were surprised by the terrain and wildlife we saw. The day we placed the cache we saw nine deer running along a ridge.
You are looking for a clear plastic container The round trip hike could be as short as 1/2 mile, or you could take the entire loop for a longer walk. Trails connect this part of the park to another area if you are looking for even more adventure.
•The geocache is on McHenry County Conservation District land with permission.
•Absolutely no cutting of brush or other vegetation is allowed.
•Visitors must remain on designated trails until you are right at the cache.
•It is the visitor’s responsibility to orient themselves with the site rules.
•Sites are open sunrise to sunset, however some gates may not be open until 8am.
•At certain times of the year, sites will close for a variety of reasons.
Site may only be accessed through the main entrance for the park.
