Zig-Zag Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Deceangi: Rather than keep this cache temporarily disabled (which should only be used for shortish periods) I'm archiving it. If/when the cache is ever replaced I'll gladly unarchive it assuming it still meets the guidelines.

Geocache Description:

Durlston Bay is famous world-wide for its geology. It is at the Eastern end of the World Heritage ‘Jurassic’ Coastline, adjacent to Swanage.
This two part multi-cache will take you from the bustle of Swanage Bay to the seclusion of Durlston Bay.

If you park at 50° 36.396'N 001° 57.111'W (or anywhere in Swanage – nothing’s too far away!), a short easy walk takes you to the clue site.

So now find:
The year the boathouse was built = abcd
The year it was first renovated = efgh
Then renovated again = ijkl
Finally, the ILB shed was added in = mnop

Then follow your nose to the cache, which you will find at 50° 36.ape 001° dc.m0i. You can either go along the foreshore (check the tides, obviously, although you'd have to try really hard to get cut off) but easiest is to start off by going up the grassy downs to find the top of the ZigZag path....

Please be aware that the terrain can be taxing – some rocky foreshore, some muddy paths and a tiny bit of down-on-your-backside-ing - but you'll end up on the biggest bit of engineering to stop a few flats falling off a cliff that I've ever seen!

The whole thing can comfortably be done in about an hour on foot - but I'd suggest leaving more time to explore Durlston Bay. There are many fossils to be found around here - for example there is a 20cm long cast of a Dinosaur footprint still in place in the cliff only 25m away from the cache itself at 50° 36.125'N 001° 57.134'W. Have a look at the photo to see what you're looking for.
