Geocache Description:

You must enlist the help of two members of the Masson family of Cowie to find the cache. Unfortunately both have died, but they have left clues to help you complete your quest.

The cache is a small army-surplus fuse box box and is situated at the following co-ordinates:

N56º 58.5AB

W002º 11.5YZ

In order to complete the co-ordinates and find the cache you need to enlist the help of two members of the Masson family of Cowie, James Leiper, husband of Helen Masson and Margaret Walker Glennie, wife of John Masson.

Unfortunately both have died, but they have left clues to help you complete your quest. You need to find their headstones in Cowie Kirkyard.

The path to the kirkyard starts at N56º 58.644 W002º 11.642.

At N56º 58.599 W002º 11.534, you will find a headstone as follows: In loving memory of Margaret Walker Glennie, dearly loved wife of John Masson, Shipmaster. Died 10th February 19AB”

Then, not far away at N56º 58.591 W002º 11.512, you will find a headstone as follows: Erected by Helen Masson in loving memory of her husband James Leiper who died 19th August 1933 aged YZ years.”

The cache, as you will see, is not in the kirkyard, but before you leave by the lower gate, take time to look around and wander among this silent crowd.

Kirkyard caches are tempting at night, however the walk to the cache, while safe by day, would be very dangerous in the dark. By day you will see seals, and perhaps dolphins heading north as you take the bracing path to the cache.
