Walking Turkey Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Brules: The Walking Turkey Cache is gone. A victim of "Prescribed fire" that is used to control wild fire. All the undergrowth is burned away to allow the forest to regenerate. This method is great for the forest and the animals [^] but not so great for geocaches. [:(]

Needless to say all the clues I used are burned away. The area looks totally different from when the cache was placed. The cords probably work better now since so much has been cleared. Maybe someone that has found the cache before might want to revisit the site. I want to thank all the people who took the time to find Walking Turkey and leave their great comments.

I hope to place another cache along Turkey Creek Trail in the future [?]. It is just a beautiful place to hike.

Geocache Description:

Good trail for hiking or biking. Slippery when wet.

This cache is located just off the Turkey Creek Trail. The trail is one of my favorites, especially in the winter when the leaves are off the trees. The trail meanders through creek bottoms, with cane breaks, to forest with some huge pine and hardwood trees and views of the creek that will stop you in your tracks. You will pass a spring that has a cement box around it. I have never drunk from it, but have been tempted. Try at your own risk. There are several bridges crossing small streams. Take time to look at the rock formations in the streams.

The trail is in two sections, the North section is 11.9 miles, while the South section is 11 miles round trip. The South section ends up on Steven’s Creek. However there are several places to get on the trail. One of them being at N 33 47.555…W 082 09.073. This is at the end of a dirt road that is about 2 miles from Key Bridge. The dirt road turns off of Key Road, S19-68. If you park here the cache is just a little over a mile away, two plus miles round trip. If you park at N 33 47.823…W 082 735, where Key Bridge is, you will have a considerably longer hike. If you have time, walk or bike the whole trail. It will not disappoint you.

I would not do any bushwhacking to find this cache. The terrain off trail can get pretty rough. Trust me; the cache will be easier if you go by trail.

Watch and listen for bicycles. There can be a lot of traffic at certain times.

The trail is slippery when wet. How do I know this you ask? Because it was raining when I hid the cache.
