Geocache Description:

This little group of (once) brightly-coloured fish never swim, but you may have to.

You will know when you find them! No need to contact the cache owner.

May 2006 - Some believe Razor City is in danger of collapse - use your judgement.

December 2008 - Warning - the fish have an exclusive contract with a popular magazine - please NO PHOTOS OF THEM in your logs!

September 2010 - Recently some interest has been shown in the origins of the fish. One theory is that they are examples of the very rare LIGNOCYTES ("wood fossils"), items caught in live trees and preserved in them during maturing, seasoning, and sawing into timbers. A more prosaic possibility is that they were formed by INTRUDED RESIN that has survived sawing and preparation. A Japanese professor told me that his father, who retired to the Fylde, believes that they are NETOHORI ("ghost fish") captured one night by a fisherman who nailed them down to prevent them haunting his family. Other theories refer to more recent human agency.

August 2014 - This "bizarre" structure is the head of the old jetty.

March 2017 - The jetty was a three-storey structure of wood, iron & steel, which extended the pier out to the North Channel. It was used by yachts, fishing boats, the lifeboat and steamships. In the 1890s the Ribble Navigation Company formed a new channel to the Port of Preston. This resulted in the silting up of the North Channel and from about 1910 steamships could no longer use the jetty. Two storeys are now completely buried. See http://www.amounderness.co.uk/the_jetty.html for photos and lots on the pier.

STRONG WORDS for the less subtle reader: 1. If you aren't sure you've found the cache, then you haven't found it. Reactions on finding vary from "Aha" to the totally unprintable. You must be very near to see it. 2. If you put a photo of the fish in your log entry, I will delete the entry, and indeed I have done that several times. You are free to re-log without a photo. End of STRONG WORDS

Please be reassured that "Razor City" recorded by a punk band from Paisley does not refer to this location.

Cache now in its twentieth year!
