Allamuchy Climber Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: From the Northern Region Office, New Jersey State Parks Department:

Over a year ago New Jersey enacted a policy that all geocachers must obtain a permit to have their cache on State Park property. We have informed all geocaching host that this is their responsibility and have given them ample time to go about getting their permits. At this time, over a year later, there are still several caches that haven’t complied.

We ask that as the land managers for the attached properties we would like to have these illegal caches removed.

Based on the list provided by the state, I am forced to archive this listing. If you have a permit, get a permit or don't believe your cache is on state park/forest land, please contact me via email. Make sure you include the GC code.

If you don't plan to get a permit, please remove your geocache so it doesn't become geo-trash.

Geocache Description:

Located above the granite slabs of Allamuchy State Park, this cache provides the seeker with an opportunity to visit a popular local climbing area.

This area is part of the New Jersey Highlands Province which runs along a line from Franklin through Andover to the Delaware River just north of Phillipsburg. Irregular escarpments averaging 500 feet in height mark the boundary of the Highlands Province. The Highlands are underlain predominantly by granite, gneiss, and small amounts of marble of Precambrian age. These rocks, the oldest in New Jersey, were formed between 1.3 billion and 750 million years ago by melting and recrystallization of sedimentary rocks that were deeply buried, subjected to high pressure and temperature, and intensely deformed. This cache area (especially as you walk south and west) provides exceptional visibility to the clean granite faces enjoyed by local climbers.

Please be careful to not dislodge or throw any rocks from the cliffs – on any warm (and dry) weekend, you’re likely to find climbers in the area below you. Cache is a camouflaged Tupperware container. Please be sure to leave it well hidden. Most climbing activity will be to the South and West of this cache but climbers may be in the area setting up anchors.

For the easiest walk, park @ the Sussex Branch Trailhead @ N40.55.273 W074.44.366. Parking closer means a shorter walk but will raise the terrain difficulty rating. Hunting for this cache at night is not recommended.
