You can park your car
somewhere around
N51° 55.599' W000° 20.093'. It's sort
of the car park for The Red Lion pub but I don't think they'll
mind, especially if you drop in for a pint of their excellent
London Pride when you return.
Take the footpath that starts a few yards down the road, along
side the church graveyard. This path will take you past Botanybay
Plantation on your left then down the left-hand side of Aldwicks
Plantation, finally down Minsbury Hill to Minsbury plantation
where, hopefully, you'll find the camouflaged, black ammo box I've
so carefully hidden. In total, a distance of about 3/4 of a mile.
The paths are open, for the most part and an 'All Terrain' baby
buggy will be no problem. The climb back up Minsbury hill may be,
however. It climbs about 160 feet in 500 yards. The views are good
on a clear day.
Please keep to the footpaths as the woodland is used for rearing
pheasant and is strictly private. If you're quiet, there is a
surprising amount of wildlife to be seen. As well as the usual
squirrels and rabbits, there are kestrels, hares and I've seen a
pair of buzzards circling over the plantion on two occasions
now.
