The trail is often used, well marked and provides a beautiful view
of the Tennessee River. Stay alert, watch for deer, turkeys,
raccoons, woodland fairies, and of course, the bikers along the
trail. Enjoy the forest, it is truly enchanting …bring your mtn
bike, a fishing pole, lunch and spend the day at Bartlebaugh’s
Enchanted Forest .
Bartlebaugh used to be a big farm in the Hwy 58 area, down Champion
Road a bit. The locals in these parts tell of a popular swimming
hole at Bartlebaugh, down a dirt road behind the church. The dirt
road is now paved and called Solitude Dr. The Enchanted Forest of
Bartlebaugh is now a part of Booker T. Washington State Park.
Please be sure to check the link to the park’s website:
http://www.state.tn.us/environment/parks/bookert/index.html for
current info on park rules. Park closes at sunset, with a $3 access
fee "per vehicle", paid at the park’s office. To find the Enchanted
Forest of Bartlebaugh you will need to find the bike trail first.
You can enter either from inside Booker T. State Park (but I
haven't a clue where from inside as we always came the other
route), or from Solitude Dr. which is the first left off Champion
Rd., past the state park. The Solitude Dr. trail entrance is used
by most bikers, who park at the church, or a little bit of parking
is avail right at the trail head off Solitude Dr. The trail
entrance from Solitude Dr. can be found at N 35° 07.234´, W 85°
10.010´ on the left side of the road. After you have found the
trail from Solitude Dr., proceed into the Enchanted Forest and take
the 2nd left fork in the trail, (be careful, the 1st one is tricky
to miss seeing). You will cross the “moat” and proceed to The
Pointe. The trail will then turn to the south and follow the edge
of the Tennessee River. You will come upon the Tree of White
Salamanders, if you find one, look closeby as a Faierie will most
likely be hiding nearby. Then you will pass through the Great
Towers of Ivy. Continue on the trail as it passes through the Great
Tree of No More. Watch for gnomes and faieries along the way. (oh
and watch out for bikers along the trail.) -Carolina MOOn
